Akagera national park is another popular wildlife park in Rwanda founded in 1934 by the Belgium government who at that time were colonizing Rwanda. The park covers up to 433 square miles situated in the east along the Rwanda-Tanzania border where the Kagera river resides. The three vegetation zones including swamp, savannah and montane have acted as homes to 11 mammal species and up to 480 bird species making it the best park to visit if you are interested in game drives, boat rides and bird watching. The park used to be home of huge population of African wild dogs but a disease epidemic wiped them out and by 1984 there were no more wild dogs.

A game drive offers tourists chance to spot wild animals like the buffalo, elephants, elands, roan, zebra, impala, topi, giraffe, warthog, water bucks, hippos in the Kagera river along with the beautiful birds that roam the park.
