Before you can commence with booking, here a few frequently asked questions about car rental in Uganda, read through and get informed for better deal.

Q-How can a rental car be booked?

A- Car reservations can be made online via our website or you can decide to come to our office in person situated in Kampala along Bukoto-Kisasi road next to Bukoto Market that's  if you within the city. For online reservations or bookings, there is a short contact form you are supposed to fill in indicating the type of car/service you are in need of and the consultation team will give you feedback quickly or even instantly. Q- How can I pay for the rental car?

A- Mobile money, bank transfers and hard cash payments are the valid payment options for booking. For a bank transfer we give you an active account number in the car rental invoice and so for the mobile money case, a  receipt is then given to you to confirm your deposit.

 Q-What is the legal age limit?

A- The legal age for one to qualify for a car hire and driving in Uganda is 25 years and above but one should not again be beyond 60 years old.

Question – Do you take deposits?

A- A 30% deposit on a car you are hiring confirms your reservation but in case the hirer is picking the in a week’s time or less you can pay on the pickup day. The balance is cleared upon your arrival prior to the car keys being handed over to you if you made a deposit.

 Question – Are the cars manual and automatic?

A- We offer both manual and automatic transmission cars including the limousines, Mercedes benz, sedans, station wagons and mini or safari vans among others operating on petrol and diesel engines. You will choose to hire with a driver or for a self-drive.

Question- What qualifications are needed for me to drive?

A- A valid driving permit or license, National Identification Card of your respective country of origin, passport and any other legal identification allows you to hire a car from us after we have seen your original documents but we will remain with their photocopies.

Question – What kind of insurance is given to a car hirer?

A Comprehensive insurance is given only if the damage will require at least US$ 200 but any damage costing less than US$ 200 will be taken care of by the car hirer.

 Question – What extra amenities are given when I rent a car?

A-Travel magazines, GPS (Global Positioning System), Uganda travel map, Guide books and a free box of bottled water including a small phone along with a locally operating Sim card for communication are the extra services offered when you hire a car from us.

 Question - How much does a kilometer cost?

A- Unlimited mileage gives you the right to drive anywhere within Uganda but re-oiling and tyre replacement could be the only things you will have you to do if you are driving for many kilometers.

Question - Where is the pick up or drop off location of the car?

A-Pick-up of the hired car can be done at our office or it can be delivered to your residence, office or hotel room within Kampala or Entebbe, an extra fuel cost for delivering it outside Kampala or Nairobi is charged and for drop off. For a car drop off, a hotel, your residence or airport can be okay provided you don’t go beyond the agreed time.

 Question – How much is hiring a driver per day in Uganda?

A- One professional driver costs US$ 40 per day with driving time from 7am to 7pm strictly and they have extreme knowledge about the most attractive destinations and roads to the parks and other attractions in the Pearl of Africa. 

Question Do I need to tip the driver and what is the amount?

A- It all depends on you and you can decide not to as well but most clients do tipoff they were very impressed and satisfied by the driver’s work. At least US$ 5 and above can be enough depending on your budget.

 Question – Is an extra driver accepted?

A- Sometimes people get excited during a road trip or any travel and want to switch with the driver but this is dangerous which may cause traffic rule violations and accidents even if the person qualifies with a valid driving permit, we advice you let the driver or person who signed the Uganda car rental contract drive.

 Question - What terms and conditions govern a self drive car?

A- For every business entity, terms and conditions create a favorable business environment for both the client and the operators so we since cannot supervise you during the self drive, terms & conditions have been made lighter to keep you enjoying your self-drive trip on and off the road with any of our rental cars.

 Question – What is the price for hiring a camping gear?

A- A whole set of the camping gear is US$ 10 per day and comes with a camper tent, small, mattress blanket, cooking gas, kitchen utensils (forks, knives, spoons, plates, and saucepans), tables and camper chairs with camping tips for your safety.

 Question – Do you have any special offers?

A- To our returning clients, those taking more than one car and anyone taking a car for more than 5 days, Uganda Car Rental Services offers discounts to them.


A– How much is crossing into another country?

A- If you wish to cross an international border  like from Uganda to Kenya, Rwanda or Tanzania on a self drive, there is an additional fee of US$ 30 for small cars and US$ 50 for mid-sized vehicles that you have to encounter including paying for a Visa at the border prior to entering that specific country of your choice. 

Question- What Am I suppose to do in case of a breakdown an accident?

A- We always take clear precautions by providing you with two emergency phone numbers can reach in case you experience any mechanical problem or an accident and the reservations term will immediately get you the required assistance and a mechanic’s phone number will always be included.
